Woh Kaun Thi?

Woh Kaun Thi?  (1964) - Music Review
Lyrics - Raja Mehdi Ali Khan
Music - Madan Mohan

  1. Aap kyon roye - Lata Mangeshkar
  2. Chhod kar tere pyar - Lata Mangeshkar & Mahendra Kapoor
  3. Lag ja gale - Lata Mangeshkar
  4. Naina barse rimjhim - Lata Mangeshkar
  5. Shokh nazar ki bijliyan - Asha Bhonsle
Madan in full form, Woh Kaun Thi has some of Lata's greatest hits. Love all songs, the duet 'chhod kar tere' featuring mahendra kapoor and lata is also good one. No words for 'aap kyon roye', the romantic ' lag ja gale' and the haunting song 'naina barse'.

My favourite is 'lag ja gale', so well written and well composed song with Lata's sweet voice. Also you must listen to Asha's 'shokh nazar ki bijliyan', though not so famous song like the others in the album but it is also a good song.

Awards

Madan got nomiated for Filmfare Best Music Director Award but lost to Laxmikant Pyarelal for Dosti.

Madan Mohan

Born on 25.06.1924 at Baghdad, Iraq.
Died on 14.07.1975 at Mumbai, India.

Madan Mohan is another of my favourite Music Directors, a man behind so many classic songs, ghazals. He was credited for bringing out the best from his singers like Talat Mehmood, Mohd. Rafi and specially Lata Mangeshkar, with whom he had given some of the best songs of hindi films.

Even after his death when 'Veer-Zaara' was released with Madan's unused tunes recreated by his son, Sanjeev Kohli, the songs were a hit and appreciated everywhere.

His first film as music director was Aankhen (1950).

Though he got nominated four times, he never won a Filmfare Award for Best Music Director. He won National Film Award for Best Music Direction for Dastak (1971).

From today onwards, I will review Madan's music as well as my favourites with you.

1942: A Love Story

1942: A Love Story  (1994) - Music Review

RD's last hit film. Sad that RD  never saw the  magic he created as he died before the film released. It is also one of Kumar Sanu's critical hit. Well writen songs by Javed Akhtar and you have a complete album. Love 'ek ladki ko dekha' for its fresh music.

Jawani Diwani

Jawani Diwani (1972) - Music Review
Lyrics - Anand Bakshi
Music - R.D. Burman

  1. Samne yeh kaun - Kishore Kumar
  2. Yeh jawani hai deewani - Kishore Kumar
  3. Hai tauba maine tujhe - Asha Bhonsle (available for listening only)
  4. Agar saaz cheda - Asha Bhonsle & Kishore Kumar
  5. Jaane jaan dhoondta - Asha Bhonsle & Kishore Kumar
  6. Nahin nahi abhi nahin - Asha Bhonsle & Kishore Kumar
A blockbuster from RD. Jawani Diwani, a trendsetter, fast songs, fast music, just raise the heart beats. A must for all RD lovers, my favourite and I knows mos music lover's favourite as well, 'jaane jaa dhoondta', Kishore & Asha rocks.

    Ijaazat

    Ijaazat (1987) - Music Review
    Lyrics - Gulzar
    Music - R.D. Burman

    1. Katra katra - Asha Bhosle
    2. Chhoti si kahani se - Asha Bhosle
    3. Khali haath shaam - Asha Bhosle
    4. Mera Kuch samaan - Asha Bhosle

A classic in every sense, Ijaazat has four songs, four hits including two great ghazals. If any music director gave life to Gulzar's lyrics, it is definitely RD. Also, a dream for any singer to have all the songs in her voice in a movie and Asha not only grabbed the opportunity but delivered as well. I am not mentioning any particular song as my favourite because, it will be unfair to the lyrics writer and music director after coming up with such great songs.

    Awards

    5. Aao jhoomen gaayen - Asha Bhonsle & Kishore Kumar
    6. Holi re holi - Asha Bhonsle & Manna Dey
A pure romantic collection from RD & Anand Bakshi combination. Love aaj unse, tera mera juda and my favourite 'dil hai mera dil', the way Kishore has sang it, tremendous.

    Parinda (1989) - Music Review
    Lyrics - Khurshid Hallauri
    Music - R.D. Burman

    1. Pyar ke mod par - Asha Bhonsle & Suresh Wadekar
    2. Tumse milke aisa - Asha Bhonsle & Suresh Wadekar
    3. Kitni hain pyaari - Shailendra Singh & Suresh Wadekar
    4. Sehre main dulha hoga - Shailendra Singh & Suresh Wadekar
Four songs, two memorable all time hits, Parinda has two of the best romantic songs of Asha Bhonsle & Suresh Wadekar and I love both of them.

    Amar Prem

Amar Prem (1971) - Music Review
    Lyrics - Anand Bakshi
    Music - R.D. Burman

    1. Doli mein bithaike - S.D. Burman
    2. Bada natkhat hai - Lata Mangeshkar
    3. Raina beeti jaaye - Lata Mangeshkar
    4. Chingari koi bhadke - Kishore Kumar
    5. Kuch toh log kahenge - Kishore Kumar
    6. Yeh kya hua - Kishore Kumar
A complete package from RD & Anand Bakshi. Great songs, great lyrics & great music. Each song with a story in itself and beautifully rendered by the singers. It is also one of those movies where you will find RD, Rajesh Khanna, Anand Bakshi, Kishore but no romantic song, amazing, isn't it! Love all the songs but would go with 'chingari koi bhadke' as my favourite.

Anand Bakshi got nominated for filmfare best lyricst (filmfare) & Kishore got nominated for 'filmfare best singer male' for chingari koi bhadke.

    Music - R.D. Burman

    1. Khamosh sa afsaana - Lata Mangeshkar & Suresh Wadekar
    2. Silli hawa choon gai - Lata Mangeshkar
    3. Kya bura hai kya - Lata Mangeshkar & Shailendra Singh
    4. Phir kisi shakh se - Lata Mangeshkar
Though we never had the opportunity to watch this classic creation from Gulzar, as it never got released in India, we are lucky enough to have the audio tracks of another RD, Gulzar combination. Each song, pure poetry blended with RD's music and greatly rendered by all the singers. Listen to 'khamosh sa afsaana' for true RD magic, Gulzar's lyrics and above all Lata & Suresh Wadekar's silk voice.

    1. Gulabi ankhen - Mohd. Rafi
    2. Kis liye maine pyar - Lata Mangeshkar

    5. O meri jaan maine - Asha Bhonsle & R.D. Burman
    6. Saiyan re saiyan - Asha Bhonsle
A look at all the songs of 'The Train' and you will find apart from 'kis liye maine' all the songs are fast tracks, even the romantic song 'mujhse bhala yeh'. One of the rare album where RD, Anand Bakshi, Rajesh Khanna all are present but there is no Kishore song! I love 'Oh meri jaan' by RD & Asha, though it is inspired by beatles music, RD has his own touch as well Asha.

    Drohi

    Drohi  (1992) - Music Review
    Lyrics - Javed Akhtar
    Music - R.D. Burman

    1. Dooba dooba nashe mein - Asha Bhonsle & Jolly Mukherjee
    2. Panchchi gaayen re - Asha Bhonsle
    3. Jungle dance - Chitra & Jojo
    4. Tum jo mile toh - Suresh Wadekar
    5. Aise humein dekho nahin - Asha Bhonsle & Mukul Aggrwal
    6. Tan mein agni jaage - Kavita Krishnamurthy & Amit Kumar
    7. Dhadkati mere dilko - Chitra & Vinod Rathod
RD at this experimental best. RD always showed us that there is no end to learning, he kept on experimenting with his instruments, music and created Drohi. There is caribbean influence in the 'jungle dance',  the club song ' dooba dooba'. Each song you will listen, you will get a fresh feeling. My favourite 'tum jo mile' a soft track greatly rendered by Suresh Wadekar, but I will also suggest, listen to 'dhadkati mere' for the sheer RD music at its best.

    Abhilasha

    Abhilasha  (1968) - Music Review
    Lyrics - Majrooh Sultanpuri
    Music - R.D. Burman

    1. Ek janib shemm-e-mehfil - Mohd. Rafi & Manna Dey
    2. Munne mere aa - Asha Bhonsle
    3. Pyar hua hai - Lata Mangeshkar & Kishore Kumar
    4. Wadiya mera daman - Lata Mangeshkar
    5. Wadiya mera daman - Mohd. Rafi
    6. Yaron hamara daamna raaste - Manna Dey, Bhupinder Singh & Maruti
Abhilasha is not a typical RD kind of combination but then if you listen to earlier films of RD there is a similarity and that is they are inspired by Shanker Jaikishan kind of music and a elvis or beatles kind of track. Here also yaron hamara is the elvis kind of track, munne mere is a typical lori. My favourite and I believe most of yours is 'wadiyan mera daaman', both lata & rafi versions.

    Gardish (1993) - Music Review
    Lyrics - Javed Akhtar
    Music - R.D. Burman

    1. Baadal jo barse to - Asha Bhonsle
    2. Hum na samjhe the - S. P. Balasubramaniam
    3. Aai mere deewano - Asha Bhonsle & S. P. Balasubramaniam

    5. Rang rangeeli raat - Asha Bhonsle & S. P. Balasubramaniam
    6. Tum jo mile humko - Asha Bhonsle & Mg Shree Kumar
Most of the songs of this album are of similar type, so you may listen them once or twice but would never want to keep their records but yes listen to my favourite 'hum na samjhe the' the lyrics, music and SPB all together makes it a great song.

    Sitara

    Sitara (1980) - Music Review
    Lyrics - Gulzar
    Music - R.D. Burman

Right click on the Download Link and select "Save target as..."
    1. Aap aaye garib khane - Asha Bhonsle
    2. Yeh saaye hain - Asha Bhonsle
    3. Thodi si zamin - Lata Mangeshkar & Bhupinder Singh
    4. Sajna ka kangana - Asha Bhonsle & Bhupinder Singh
    5. Saath saath tum chalo - Asha Bhonsle & Bhupinder Singh
Don't blame me if I keep praising the RD, Gulzar combination because they are worthy of it. In Sitara they again gave us great songs, a mujra in aap aaye garib, a semi folk in sajna ka kangna, a ghazal in yeh saaye hain, a soft romantic 'saath saath tum chalo' and a timeless 'Thodi si zameen' rendered by Lata & Bhupinder.

    Manzil

    Manzil (1979) - Music Review
    Lyrics - Yogesh
    Music - R.D. Burman

    1. Rimjhim gire sawan - Lata Mangeshkar
    2. Rimjhim gire sawan - Kishore Kumar
    3. Tum ho mere dil ki - Kishore Kumar
    4. Man mera chahe - Asha Bhonsle
A true beauty from RD, Manzil has most of my favourite songs. Its also difficult for me to mention a particular song. RD's creativeness can be seen when he chooses Lata for the soft romantic version of 'rimjhim gire sawan' while Kishore for the light classical one. Also a special mention to Yogesh, he may never have got the hyped which many of his contemporary lyricists got but the way he use simple words and turn it to a beautiful song is just great.

    Ghar (1978) - Music Review
    Lyrics - Gulzar
    Music - R.D. Burman

    1. Aaj kal paon zameen - Lata Mangeshkar
    2. Aap ki ankhon mein - Lata Mangeshkar & Kishore Kumar
    3. Phir wohi raat hai - Kishore Kumar
    4. Tere bina jiya - Lata Mangeskar & Kishore Kumar
    5. Botal se ek baat - Asha Bhonsle & Mohd. Rafi
A truly classic in every means, Ghar again gave us great songs from RD, Gulzar combination. No need to select and mention any favourite but yes try to listen 'tere bina jiya' complete version, because the audio availale everywhere has only lata singing, go for youtube video and you will be able to listen to kishore's voice in the later part of the song and love it.

    Chhote Nawab

Chhote Nawab (1961) - Music Review
    Lyrics - Shailendra
    Music - R.D. Burman

    1. Ghar aaja ghir aaye - Lata Mangeshkar
    2. Aam chhum taam chhum - Mohd. Rafi
    3. Jeenewale muskura ke jee - Lata Mangeshkar & Mohd. Rafi

    7. Aaj hua mera dil - Lata Mangeshkar & Mohd. Rafi
    8. Ilahi tu sun le - Mohd. Rafi
RD's first released movie as a music director, Chhote Nawab gave the glimpses of what to expect in coming years from RD. You won't find the RD pattern as it came with time rather you will find impression of other music director's of that era in each songs but yes you must listen to 'ghar aaja ghir aaye', a classical song by lata and found a RD touch.

RD's last film as music director. To tell you the truth I never heard the songs of this film but before review, I went through all the songs and thanked RD for all those greats songs he had given to us. Once you start listening to the songs two three times and you will start liking them, specially kahin phool honge, rang naya & seedhe raah chal.

Balika Badhu is one of those movies where you will find end number of songs but will recognise it only one song and that is 'bade acche lagte', my favourite as well, rendered perfectly by Amit Kumar.

    Khushboo

    Khushboo  (1975) - Music Review
    Lyrics - Gulzar
    Music - R.D. Burman

    1. O majhi re - Kishore Kumar
    2. Do naino mein - Lata Mangeshkar
    3. Bechara dil kya kare - Asha Bhonsle
    4. Ghar jayegi - Asha Bhonsle

A great work from RD, Gulzar combination. Four songs, four hits, with 'ghar jayegi' being re-mixed numerous times till date. Each of the songs are my favourite but yes a special mention to 'do naino mein' for Gulzar's lyrics and Lata's magical voice.

    Zahreela Insaan

Zehreela Insaan  (1974) - Music Review
    Lyrics - Majrooh Sultanpuri
    Music - R.D. Burman

    1. O Hansini - Kishore Kumar
    2. Dum tumhari dum - Kishore Kumar (available for listening)
    3. Mere dil se ye nain - Asha Bhonsle & Shailendra Singh
    4. Suno Kahani - Lata Mangeskar
    5. Saanp se badhke - Shailendra Singh
    6. Yeh silsila - Asha Bhonsle
One of the rare collections from RD where most of the listeners identify O hansini from Zehreela Insaan. But believe me, once you start listening to other songs like 'mere dil se', 'suno kahani' & 'yeh silsila' you will make this as your favourite. Many times if a movie don't run, even it affects its songs and the same with Zehreela Insaan. My favourite is definitely 'O hansini' but I would suggest listen to those songs which I mentioned.

    3. Main shair badnaam - Kishore Kumar
    4. Sooni re sejaria - Asha Bhonsle
    5. Woh jhoota hai - Kishore Kumar
Another combination of RD, Kishore & Rajesh Khanna, 'namak haraam' has some of the most memorable Kishore songs and all of them are hit ones. I love ' main shair badnaam', great music, lyrics and voice.

    Mere Jeevan Saathi

Mere Jeevan Saathi  (1972) - Music Review
    Lyrics - Majrooh Sultanpuri
    Music - R.D. Burman

    1. O mere dil ke - Kishore Kumar
    2. Diwana leke ayaa - Kishore Kumar
    3. Chala jaatha hoon - Kishore Kumar
    4. Kitne sapne kitne - Kishore Kumar
    5. Aao kanhai mere dham - Kishore Kumar
    6. Diwana karke - Lata Mangeshkar & Kishore Kumar
    7. Aao na gale lagao - Asha Bhonsle
A great romantic collection and one of my alltime hits 'Mere Jeevan Saathi' is in a way Kishore sings for Rajesh Khanna. The combination of RD as music director, Kishore as singer and Rajesh Khanna as actor, they have given us many more hits but this one is special. My favourite 'diwana leke aaya hai'. The mesmerising music of RD, the romantic voice of Kishore just too good.

    Hare Rama Hare Krishna

Hare Rama Hare Krishna  (1971) - Music Review
    Lyrics - Anand Bakshi
    Music - R.D. Burman

    1. Phoolon ka taaron ka - Kishore Kumar
    2. Phoolon ka taaron ka - Lata Mangeshkar
    3. Kanchi re kanchi re - Lata Mangeshkar & Kishore Kumar
    4. Dum maro dum - Asha Bhonsle
    5. Hare rama hare krishna - Asha Bhonsle & Usha Uthup
    6. Ram ka naam badnaam - Kishore Kumar
    7. Ghungroo ka bole - Lata Mangeshkar
A true RD magic. True to the RD spirit 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' bring out the best of the RD & Anand Bakshi combination, two creative person together. No need to imagine the output, in phoolon ka taaron there is the sweet lori, in kanchi re kanchi & ghungroo ka bole there is the pahadi touch and in the title track and dum maro dum there is great use of vocal, guitars. No guess for my favourite though, it is 'dum maro dum' and who could give life to the song other than Asha.

    Kati Patang

Kati Patang (1970) - Music Review
    Lyrics - Anand Bakshi
    Music - R.D. Burman

    1. Pyar deewana hota hai - Kishore Kumar
    2. Yeh shaam mastani - Kishore Kumar
    3. Yeh jo mohabbat hai - Kishore Kumar
    4. Na koi umang hai - Lata Mangeshkar
    5. Jis gali mein tera - Mukesh
    6. Aaj na chodenge - Lata Mangeshkar & Kishore Kumar
    7. Mera naam hai - Asha Bhonsle & R.D. Burman
Typical RD music which includes a cabret, a holi song, great romantic songs from Kishore and more. Kati Patang is typical Rajesh Khanna type movie music full of joy and romance. Kishore had some great songs in this album and my favourite is 'pyar deewana hota hai'.

      Pyar Ka Mausam

Pyar Ka Mausam (1969) - Music Review
      Lyrics - Majrooh Sultanpuri
      Music - R.D. Burman

      1. Tum bin jaoon kahan - Kishore Kumar
      2. Tum bin jaoon kahan - Mohd. Rafi
      3. Aap chahen mujhko - Lata Mangeshkar
      4. Aap se miliye - Lata Mangeshkar
      5. Main na miloongi - Lata Mangeshkar
      6. Na ja mere humdum - Lata Mangeshkar
      7. Ni sultana re - Lata Mangeshkar & Mohd. Rafi
      8. Che khush nazare - Mohd. Rafi
A very unlike RD kind of music, if you are not aware that RD is the music director of this album than you will think that may be Laxmikant Pyarelal or Kalyanji Anandji had given music for the film. Because there is no RD print which we can easily find in his songs. Love most of the songs though, special mention will be my favourite tum bin jaoon by Kishore.

      Jajit Singh forever

It's really sad that I always had a plan to make a special blog page dedicated to the King of Ghazal Jagjit Singh but his sudden death changed my plan altogether. But I promise that in future I will definitely add a page to my favourite ghazal singer's contribution, this time though I will share the grief with all the music lovers.

The great singer died on 10.10.2011 at 8.10 am in Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai after having a terrible haemorrhage.

Following is the tribute to the great singer and last 10 film ghazals by him.
      1. Har ore tabaahi ka manzar - Gandhi to Hitler (2011)
      2. Khumari chad kay utar - Umar (2006)
      3. Jaana hai jaana hai - Kasak (2005)
      4. Benaam sa yeh - Dhoop (2003)
      5. Badi nazuk hai yeh - Joggers Park (2003)
      6. Aisi aankhein nahin dekhi -Aap Ko Pahle Bhi Kahin Dekha Hai (2003)
      7. Tere khayal ki - Leela (2002)
      8. Bahut khoobsoorat - Vadh (2002)
      9. Yun toh guzar raha - Deham (2001)
      10. Koi fariyaad - Tum Bin (2001)

      Tribute

It's a loss for the music industry but especially those who knew him well, like me, are schocked. I was hopeful that he would come out of coma, but God had other plans. He was known for his ghazals and there is no doubt that he worked very hard at it and developed his own style.

      Lata Mangeshkar

Jagjit could sing ghazals in a pure form. Jagjit Singh was a very tolerant man and was a great example of an ideal human being.

      Asha Bhosle

He was a courageous man. He remained strong and maintained his sense of humour. After going through so many calamities, if a person can maintain his equilibrium, that is rather commendable.

      Javed Akhar

"My film ARTH would not have touched the hearts of millions of people without the contribution of Jagjit Singh. Thank you friend. Thank you!

      Mahesh Bhatt

He was a pioneer because he broadened the base for ghazal, took it to lay music lovers. He did this by bringing in western instruments like the guitar into ghazals, introducing instrumental interludes, experimenting with non-traditional rhythm patterns and simplifying the tunes to make them very melodic.

      Talat Aziz

Singh had made ghazal so accessible that his audiences "could sing along with him".

      Pankaj Udhas

He was the first real ghazal singer from India. Before him there were clones. The poetry in his music was beautiful,"

      Anupam Kher

There are very few things that have touched me so deeply and one of them was Jagjit Singh's voice. R.I.P to an amazing man. With the deepest respect

      Ajay Devgan

It's sad that jagjit singh passed away though we could never work but met him in parties he was a great person & singer my condolences RIP

      Dev Anand

I would say that Jagjit Singh's biggest contribution to ghazals was that it drew the masses to the style, masses who till then only patronised filmi ghazals,"

      Rekha Surya

      Padosan

      Padosan (1968) - Music Review
      Lyrics - Rajinder Krishan
      Music - R.D. Burman

      1. Ek chatur nar karke - Manna Dey
      2. Mere samne wali - Kishore Kumar
      3. Sharm aati hai magar - Lata Mangeshkar
      4. Aao aao sanwariya - Manna Dey
      5. Kehna hai - Kishore Kumar
      6. Main chali main chali - Lata Mangeshkar & Asha Bhonsle
      7. Bhai batur bhai - Lata Mangeshkar
      8. Mere bhole balam - Kishore Kumar
One of the rare movies where there are no duets! Padosan is all madness and the music reflected the same. Kishore, RD, Mehmood, when these people sit together and think of coming up with a roller coster, than what more can you expect. Realistic comic songs are never better, but than there is my favourite 'kehna hai' a romantic song which Kishore made more romantic.

        Baharon Ke Sapne

Baharon Ke Sapne  (1967) - Music Review
        Lyrics - Majrooh Sultanpuri
        Music - R.D. Burman

        1. Aaja piya tohe pyar - Lata Mangeshkar
        2. Chunri sambhal gori - Lata Mangeshkar & Manna Dey
        3. Do pal jo teri aankhon - Asha Bhonsle & Usha Mangeshkar
        4. Kya janoon sajan - Lata Mangeshkar
        5. O mere sajana o mere - Lata Mangeshkar
        6. Zamane ne mare - Mohd. Rafi

One of the earliest classic by RD, I love all songs of this compilation. But if I have to mention my favourite than it will be 'kya janoon sajan', majrooh's lyrics, RD's music and above all Lata's voice, this songs is a special one and alltime hit.

        Bhoot Bangla

Bhoot Bangla (1965) - Music Review
        Lyrics - Hasrat Jaipuri
        Music - R.D. Burman

        1. Aao twist karen - Manna Dey
        2. Bhoot Bangla - Mahmood, R.D. Burman, Suresh
        3. Ek sawal hai - Kishore Kumar
        4. O mere pyar aaja - Lata Mangeshkar
        5. Pyar karta ja - Kishore Kumar
        6. Jago sonewalo - Kishore Kumar

RD's second movie as a music director and he showed us the glimpses of his genius only at the age of 26! In 'Aao twist karen' RD used his full grasp on western music and to select Manna Dey to sing the song who is famous for his classical songs is surprising. The RD & Mehmood combo in the title track 'Bhoot Bangla' is funderful. I love 'jago sonewalo' the music is great and added to it Kishore's voice, its a must listen song.

        Saagar

        Saagar (1985) - Music Review
        Lyrics - Javed Akhtar
        Music - R.D. Burman

        1. Saagar jaisi aankhon wali - Kishore Kumar
        2. Saagar Kinare - Lata Mangeshkar
        3. O maaria - Asha Bhonsle & S.P. Balasubrahamanyam
        4. Sach mere yaar hai - S.P. Balasubrahmanyam
        5. Saagar kinare - Lata Mangeshkar & Kishore Kumar
        6. Yunhi gaate raho - Kishore Kumar & S.P. Balasubrahmanyam
        7. Jaane do na - Asha Bhonsle & Shailendra Singh
Another romantic creation from RD for which he got a Filmfare Best Music Director nomination and lost to Ravindra Jain's 'Raam teri ganga maili'.

As a music listener one would always love to keep the songs of a collection like saagar, it had romanctic songs, seductive songs, frienship song, a goa carnival type of song and dance number. One thing which is missing in the song list is the RD's humming, which is there in the movie, its classic. If I have to choose a particular song than I would definitely go with 'saagar jaisi ankhon' by Kishore, its fresh.

        Jawaani (1984) - Music Review
        Lyrics - Gulshan Bawra
        Music - R.D. Burman

        1. Tu rootha toh main - Asha Bhonsle & Amit Kumar
        2. Saajna main sada tere - Lata Mangeshkar

        5. Gali gali dhoonda - Lata Mangeshkar & Amit Kumar

Love Story (1981) - Music Review

        Music - R.D. Burman

        3. Yeh ladki zarasi - Asha Bhonsle & Amit Kumar
        4. Kya ghazab karte ho - Asha Bhonsle
        5. Teri yaad aa rahi - Lata Mangeshkar & Amit Kumar
A truly romantic album, any new comer would like this kind of music in his first movie. It's love all the way and a singer born, Amit Kumar. His voice suited Kumar Gaurav. I love all the songs and I would specially mention 'teri yaad aa rahi'. We always go for RD & Gulzar combination but if someone sees RD & Anand Bakshi than he will find, over the years they have provided us great songs.

        Shaan

        Shaan (1980) - Music Review
        Lyrics - Anand Bakshi
        Music - R.D. Burman

        1. Yamma yamma - Mohd. Rafi & R.D. Burman
        2. Janu meri jaan - Mohd. Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Usha Mangeshkar & Kishore Kumar
        3. Doston se pyaar kiya - Usha Uthup
        4. Darya mein jahaz - Asha Bhonsle, Usha Mangeshkar & Kishore Kumar
        5. Mittua - Lata Mangeshkar & Asha Bhonsle
        6. Naam abdul hai mera - Mohd. Rafi
        7. Pyar karne wale - Asha Bhonsle
One of my RD favourite, Shaan had music which was again more advanced than those times. RD maintained his reputation by providing great songs like 'doston se pyar, 'pyar karne wale', dance number like 'yamma yamma' which till date we love as well as 'naam abdul hai mera' featuring 'Mazhar Khan', which made his a household name for this song, as did the 'mehbooba' song from Sholay done for Jalal Agha. I love 'pyaar karne wale' for its great music and Asha's voice.

        Shalimar

        Shalimar (1978) - Music Review
        Lyrics - Anand Bakshi
        Music - R.D. Burman

        1. Aaina wohi rehta hai - Lata Mangeshkar
        2. Hum bewafa hargiz - Kishore Kumar
        3. Hum bewafa hargiz II - Kishore Kumar
        4. Mera pyar shalimar - Asha Bhonsle
        5. Naag Devta - Mohd. Rafi
        6. One two cha cha cha - Usha Uthup
        7. Baby lets dance together - Kittu

A truly music compilation of international standard. It only makes my belief stronger, had RD lived more, he would have gave us more experimental music. Love 'aaina wohi', hum bewafa, mera pyar. My favourite is 'mera pyaar shalimar'. RD's music matched with Asha's voice, great song, I still listen to it.

        Kinara

        Kinara (1977) - Music Review
        Lyrics - Gulzar
        Music - R.D. Burman

        1. Guru Vandana - Pankaj Mitra
        2. Ek Hi khwab - Bhupinder Singh & Hema Malini
        3. Meethe bol bole - Lata Mangeshkar & Bhupendra Singh
        4. Naam gum jayega - Lata Mangeshkar & Bhupendra Singh
        5. Tarana - Girish
        6. Abke na sawan barse - Lata Mangeshkar
        7. Jaane kya sochkar - Kishore Kumar
        8. Koi Nahin hain kahin - Bhupinder Singh
This one is a compilation not familiar to RD. Almost all the songs are classical song, the usual RD & Gulzar combination is there. A new voice Bhupinder getting most of the songs. Kishore's light classical 'jaane kya sochkar' shows us his genius, though never had classical training but than Kishore is Kishore. Yes, my song got to be ' Naam gum jaayega', Lata & Bhupinder just made it one of my alltime favourite.
